This past Saturday was our 2nd gig at The Oriental Theater. After attending these and many other events there, I’ve noticed time and again that The Oriental’s staff is the venue’s #1 attribute. Their service is stellar, and although only a handful of folks run the theater, they each make time to talk to patrons for a while to ensure a great experience.

The Oriental’s vintage patina is rare and authentic. While you’ll spot the occasional missing light fixture, crack in the wall or creaky floorboard, you’ll also find an abundance of beauty from a bygone era. This 1920s gem still sports its original custom and handmade interior. Our photo booth was inspired by and handmade in a way that pays homage to the art and architecture of a time in which The Oriental was built. This past weekend I also found out that The Oriental has hosted many weddings. How cool would it be to have your wedding there?!

Today we worked our first fundraiser and it happened to be a high school. I haven’t stepped foot inside a high school since I graduated nearly 15 years ago. From the moment we crossed through the double door threshold and were greeted by two cheerleaders screaming “Welcome photo booth! Welcome photo booth!” we knew this was going to be really cool. The day did not disappoint, it was a total blast! In a time where funds for extra curricular school programs are drying up, it felt good to be able to capture some great smiles and help raise some sweet moolah.

The crew (Todd, Shawn & I) met last night to have a meeting. Among a couple hours of talking about photo booth enhancements, getting better profile shots of the booth by the brilliant local photographer, Shannon Eli, and marketing and such, we hatched the idea to do do a short 2 minute video about our little business!

We put so much effort into preparing for each and every gig, that when the big day comes we have a BLAST seeing everything come together. We’ve decided to capture that fun in high-def video! Below is a storyboard sketch of some footage we hope to capture (with hints about some events we have lined up in the coming weeks). We enlisted the musical talents of Startstheparty for some fresh sounds and will shoot the last week of February thru mid-March. If all goes well we’ll have a great promo video on our site shortly.

We were flattered to receive a greeting card last week from Dave McKlveen. Especially since he used OUR photos! Two weeks earlier, Dave asked if he could have the full size hi-res photos from his sitting in our photo booth at Chipotle Mexican Grill’s holiday party. To this we said, “Sure!”

Dave hires a lot of people for Chipotle both domestically and internationally, is a committee member for Project Angel Heart’s a Taste for Life event and has been an active supporter of the Dumb Friends League. He’s also a snappy dresser and a heck of a nice guy. We’re glad to know you, Dave!

Sidenote: As part of our rental package, all full-res photo booth pics are offered to all clients at no additional cost. Since we sport the same professional equipment a wedding photographer, you can enlarge any one of our tiny 2 inch photo strip pictures all the way up to the size of a large poster and still have a crystal clear photo to enjoy. Dave chose to go with Snapfish.com and the card turned out great. Thanks Dave!

So we’ve been up an running for a few months now and have decided to start a blog. Why? There are many great people that we get to work with and many cool local businesses that we partner with as well. It would be a shame to not share the experience with others.
