Why we don’t do Groupon or Living Social | March 21, 2012

Groupon, Living Social and other online deal companies have been contacting us since we got up and running last year but we have maintained our disinterest. While we’d love to get our name out to thousands of people, we simply cannot go this route. Here is why …

When you are featured on Groupon, thousands of people hear about your company. This is good, right? Maybe. Chipper Booth is all about building our brand on the customer service and attention to detail, about making each client feel like they’re the only client. How could we do this if one day we had tens of dozens of inquiries all at once and booked 50-150 events in a single day? That would be suicide for our company.

It’s common to cut your price in half on sites like Groupon. We’re very competitive by offering a boutique experience on a budget at $799 for everything we offer for 4 hours within 100 miles of Denver. I’m sure cutting our price to $399 would be appealing, but at a $399 cost to the client, guess what we get from that? $199. Groupon keeps 50%! So now, instead of our already low price of $799, we’re down to $200 and losing money.

When you’re hunting for the right photo booth, a restaurant deal, a sweet price on a manicure, remember one thing: When you take advantage of that deal, the vendor only receives 1/2 of what you paid, then they have their own costs to cover. They may have sold 100s of other deals and could potentially be taking on debt or cutting corners to handle the boom in (unprofitable) business. What kind of customer service will you get?

Send us an inquiry if you need a quote. We offer discounts for non-Saturday events, events under 4 hours, military discounts, etc. We’re willing to work with you to delight you and your guests! And guess what? We’re building more booths soon and we still have a lot of availability between now and end of the wedding season.

If you read this, thanks. I hope it didn’t sound like a rant.
